Donald Trump opened a rally in Georgia on Saturday by mocking President Joe Biden’s lifelong stutter, prompting criticism on social media.
Trump has previously imitated and exaggerated Biden’s documented childhood stutter as part of his routine of claiming Biden is “incompetent.” In this case, the speech followed Biden’s State of the Union address.
At the Get Out the Vote rally in Rome, Georgia, the former president began by bringing up Biden’s speech.

“I’m going to bring this country together,” Trump said mockingly. “I’ll organize it for you.”
That sparked outrage online.
Columnist Molly Johnfast pointed out the insult.
“Trump is making fun of Biden’s stutter,” she wrote.
Former CIA analyst Gail Herdt weighed in on this.
“Of course it is,” Herdt said Saturday. “For authoritarians, cruelty is what matters.” “But no matter what happens in November, 100 years from now Joe Biden will be recognized as a great man and a great president, an American hero who stood up when it would have been easier to step back. His name will be revered. If Donald’s name is remembered at all, it will only be spoken of with disdain.”
Owen Gladwin, a self-identified conservative, called it “a blatant display of contempt for individuals facing similar challenges.”
“Mr. Trump’s actions demonstrate a severe lack of empathy and understanding,” Gladwin wrote on Saturday.
Political strategist Lindy Lee said:
“Trump is on stage now making fun of Biden’s stutter. He shamed Hunter, a recovering drug addict. They attacked 83-year-old Paul Pelosi, who was hit in the brain. They attacked 6-year-old Paul Pelosi. He is the victim of the Sandy Hook murders who harassed his parents. There is no bottom for the Republican Party,” she wrote. “They’re just going through hell.”
Writer Andy Ostroy noted the crowd’s laughter.
“Which is more disgusting: President Trump making fun of people who stutter, or cult members laughing along with him?”
