Hundreds of thousands of people Google “Montana” every day. If you did this last October (2023), you would say you Googled the biggest lie of all time. But the question has been updated as of 2024, so we know Google finally got it right (or that its source actually did some research).
Last October, when I typed into Google,Why do people move to Montana?“The answer is something like this:
Montana offers more than just beautiful scenery.First of all, it provides Low cost of living and low tax rates It is also a strong motivator. There is no sales tax and there are seven tax categories ranging from 1% to 6.9%. -Google
I laughed out loud when I saw this. Even as of last October, Montana didn’t actually offer “low-cost living.” I still laugh a little when I read this.
If you asked Google, “Is Montana a good place to live?” the answer would be much more realistic in 2024.
What is the cost of living in Montana? 1% higher than the national average. Home prices are 4% higher than the national average, and utility costs are 9% lower. When it comes to basic necessities like food and clothing, food is about 2% more expensive and clothing is 2% more expensive than the rest of the country. -Google
Now that seems like a more realistic answer, and you would think it would deter people from moving here. Unfortunately, those of us who live here are not used to rising prices, and neither are the people who move here from other states. So it doesn’t seem too shocking that a 3 bedroom apartment/townhome rents for over $3000 per month.
So I think that question is still up in the air.If so, why do people move to Montana? The cost of living, clothing, housing, and shopping will be higher.?Hit me.
