The Election Commission of India on Sunday released the second list of electoral bonds to fund political parties in the country. Detailed data on the second electoral bonds list has revealed several new facts, including that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received the highest number of electoral bonds in the country.
The saffron party has converted the total amount of electoral bonds into cash. INR6,986.5 million, maximum INRData shared by the Election Commission revealed that donations of 2.555 billion were made during the financial year 2019-20.
The “sticker cover” data for electoral bonds published by the Election Commission for the period from March 2018 to April 2019 does not include the names of donors (although only a small number of them voluntarily disclosed their names). (excluding political parties).
“The data received from political parties was deposited in the Supreme Court without opening the sealed cover. In accordance with the order of the Supreme Court dated March 15, 2024, the Registry of the Supreme Court has registered the physical copy and its digital “The Election Commission of India has today uploaded on its website the data received in digitized form from the Supreme Court’s registry of electoral bonds,” the EC said.
Other details in the EC data show that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) is the second-largest recipient after the BJP; INR$1.397 billion through electoral bonds, then spent by Congress. The grand old party redeemed the sum of INR1,334.35 million through electoral bonds.
The Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS), formerly known as Telangana Rashtra Samiti, was the fourth largest recipient through electoral bonds. According to EC data, the party led by K. Chandrashekhar Rao; INR132.2 billion yen from 2019 to 2020.
