The Internet has been around for over 40 years (41 to be exact), and during that time it has collected countless amounts of information, including images. We have a lot.
If you consider new developments in AI technology, you’ll find even more, some of which are quite frightening.
Imagine being able to find any image of yourself…well, forever.
We’re not talking about baby photos kept at home, but every image you’ve ever posted online can be searched, and the results can be a little scary.
A website called PimEyes is a platform where you can search for yourself and get tons of results, and it has been called “the most disturbing website on the internet.”
The basic premise is that you provide the site with a photo of yourself, and the site searches the internet and AI to identify other photos on the web. So, in theory, you can see all the places on the internet where images are located. you.
The basic service is free, and all you have to do is upload your own snapshots and search. Within a minute or two, you’ll see a photo of yourself from anywhere on the internet, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and a strange mugshot on the work’s “About Us” page.
However, it’s not always 100% perfect. Therefore, some strange “ness” may be added within an appropriate range.
If you want to take your image exploration a step further, you can pay for the upgraded search, which allows for a more detailed search and also provides links to all the places your photos have appeared. Very useful if you want to remove them.
Similarly, PimEyes allows users to exclude themselves from search results, so you can also “opt out”, but we want to make sure you are the one doing this. You will be asked to scan your ID or passport.
This website is strangely interesting and makes you want to look for yourself. It seems like you’re not alone, as many other people on the internet feel the same way. Whether they like the results is another matter.
One person said the website was “disgusting but extremely valuable” and praised it for “finding the person who used my face without permission” so they could order the website to remove the photo.
Still another branded it a “stalker’s dream”.
A third then explained how PimEyes recognized a photo of her from when she was 10 years old on the internet after she uploaded a recent photo of herself.
