The internet is divided after learning that Vice President Kamala Harris’ secret pleasure is Nacho Cheese Doritos, which the VP said are a comfort food after the “shock and disappointment” of the 2016 election.
In a fundraising email sent by her team on Friday night, she revealed that she ate an entire bag of chips by herself that night.
‘[Election night] “It was incredibly bittersweet. When I stepped up to the stage to give my acceptance speech to be elected Senator from California, I ripped up the notes I had prepared to read, walked up to the stage and simply said, ‘We will fight,'” she said.
“Then I went home and sat on the couch with a family-size bag of Nacho Doritos, and I didn’t share a single chip with anyone. … And I just watched TV in shock and dismay.”
She even revealed that she never shared any chips with her husband, Doug Emhoff.
But more importantly, she told fans, “Eight years later, two things remain true: I still love Doritos, and we still haven’t stopped fighting.”
Kamala Harris said she ate a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos after Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election.
‘[Election night] “It was an incredibly bittersweet experience. When I was elected to the Senate to represent California and stepped up to the stage to give my acceptance speech, I ripped up the notes I had prepared to read, stepped up to the stage and said, ‘We will fight,'” she said of the moment in an email on Friday.
Meanwhile, Emhoff claimed in a 2019 tweet that he “actually asked for some chips” from his wife on the night Hillary Clinton lost the presidential election, but “she told me to get another bag.”
In another video from 2019, during a rapid-fire question-and-answer session with an interviewer, she was asked what her secret pleasure was, to which she excitedly replied, Nacho Cheese Doritos.
“I love Doritos. I agree with Kamala,” one X user wrote.
“Doritos are my go-to snack when I’m pressed for time. Seeing the photo of Kamala eating them just like me made me feel like life was back to normal,” another user wrote on the platform.
Another person joked that there was nothing wrong with her choice of chips, just the taste, writing: “The only thing wrong with Kamala’s latest scandal is that she chose Nacho Cheese over Cool Ranch.”
“I ate an entire bag of those little powdered sugar doughnuts on election night 2016. Kamala can really relate,” another user wrote.
While many of Kamala’s fans loved how normal she seemed in the moment, others criticized her for appearing to be subservient in an attempt to gain sympathy.
However, former The View host Elisabeth Hasselbeck thought Harris’ reaction to the election results was not quite appropriate for a candidate to become the next president of the United States.
“The emotional response of the leader of the free world is to gobble down a bag of Doritos,” she told Fox’s Sean Hannity on Friday. “The emotional response of the leader of the free world is to gobble down a bag of Doritos, supposedly from the commander in chief? Are you kidding me?”
She also said she would be uncomfortable seeing Putin drowning his sorrows in a bag of Sour Patch Kids, or Qassem Soleimani eating Funyuns.
“I don’t think that’s really the response of elite leaders,” she continued, “whether you agree with what they’re leading or not.”
“They’re mad because Kamala eats Doritos that the average American can’t afford because of the economy,” Doug Billings wrote in response to Hesslebeck’s comments.
“How quickly Republicans forget Ronald Reagan and his jelly beans,” Michael Creer said on X.
