Lufthansa Group has provided an update on the rollout of inflight Wi-Fi connectivity on its A220, A319, A320 and A321 aircraft.
The group has installed broadband on short and medium-haul aircraft from Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and Eurowings, and SWISS will be the next to benefit from the technology.
Work will begin in the fourth quarter of 2024 and, upon completion, a total of 150 Group aircraft will be provided with Wi-Fi connectivity.
The news follows the introduction of free in-flight messaging from this month for customers on Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines’ short- and medium-haul Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft.
Lufthansa introduces free in-flight messaging on European routes
Customers on eligible flights can now send and receive unlimited messages, including photos, on their smartphones and tablets.
The only prerequisite for using the new service is to log in to FlyNet using your Miles & More card number or the email address registered with your Lufthansa Group Travel ID. Passengers who do not have one of these can register on board.
SWISS passengers can enjoy free in-flight messaging as the aircraft is equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity.
Lufthansa Group also announced that the newly equipped aircraft will be equipped with the Hybrid European Air Network technology introduced by Viasat. It expects S-band satellites to cover all of Europe, with supplementary ground components from Deutsche Telekom and ground radio towers equipped with his 4G LTE technology to provide additional capacity. .
