Shares of ZTE and other Chinese telecommunications equipment makers soared after countries including the United States, Japan and the United Kingdom issued statements supporting the principles for the development of a global 6G network.
ZTE’s Shenzhen-listed shares rose 10%, the day’s maximum, while Hong Kong shares ended 11% higher on Tuesday. Shares of integrated circuit board maker Sunshine Global Circuits and electronic connector maker Shaanxi Huada Technology each rose 20%, while Shenan Circuits also rose 10%.
This rise came shortly after the United States and nine other countries released a statement calling for support for national security, privacy and other principles in the development of global 6G networks.

The United Nations’ International Telecommunications Union said in December that it hoped to approve a set of 6G technology standards by 2030. China Galaxy Securities said in a recent research note that 6G is currently at the standard development and prototype testing stage. When upgrading from existing networks, countries with “core advantages in previous generation technologies,” such as China, are likely to “achieve further technological leadership,” the report said.
