(Yicai) March 20 — Shanghai launches another test area for self-driving cars, including the world’s first pilot road using 5G advanced vehicle internet communication, and regular 5G The Shanghai Observer reported that it was a major advance from the network.
Pudong New Area yesterday opened an additional 205 kilometers worth of public roads for autonomous vehicle testing, including the world’s first test road using 5G-A IOV technology at the Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Demonstration Area. The district government announced this at a press conference. yesterday.
Developed by carrier China Mobile Communications Group’s Shanghai subsidiary and partner organizations, 5G-A has an end-to-end latency of 20 milliseconds compared to 50 milliseconds, making it much faster than 5G. Unlike his 5G network, which relies on cameras, he can sense any weather conditions and traffic conditions at any time of the day.
China Mobile (Shanghai) Industrial Research Institute is a subsidiary of telecommunications giant Huawei, unmanned vehicle developer Neolix Huitong Technology, Alibaba Group’s digital transportation solution provider Wanma Network Technology, and intelligent mapping company Navifo. We have partnered with the company to develop a 5G-A system.
The new pilot zone consists of the entire Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone and major roads such as Shenjiang Road, Hunan Expressway, and Lianggang Expressway. This is the second set of public roads, following the opening of the first 29.3km public road in Pudong New Area in 2022. Shanghai currently has 1,003 public roads for autonomous driving tests, with a total length of more than 2,000 kilometers.
Self-driving companies must first pass a road test, pilot application, and pilot operation before putting driverless cars into commercial operation. To date, Shanghai has granted licenses for road tests, test applications, and test operations to 794 vehicles from 32 companies, including General Motors, which received road test permits in August last year.
