Hello, I received the sensecap M2 multiplatform gateway from seeedstudio for review. So here it is…
I received the gateway, antenna, antenna cable and power supply.
Very happy with the packaging. Packed in a foam base inside the box. Nicely packaged and assorted. Assembly is easy and straightforward. Screw the antenna cable into the M2 unit and screw the antenna into the magnetic base of the cable. Plug in the power and start up. Plug the LAN cable into an existing network or laptop and run an IP scan to find the “sensecap” device. Log in and configure.
Sorry for the small image, but this is a quick overview after setup.
In this overview you can see the number of active connections, WiFi SSID, WAN (ETH0) and traffic on the system.
This is a very basic overview of the software configuration. There are still many more settings you can change if you want. Since this is a hardware review, I won’t go into detail here. That being said, comment if you want a better overview of the software. Let’s move on to the hardware.
Once you open the white cover on top, you will see this: Here you can see 90% of all the components: WM1302 is a LoRaWAN gateway module.
Next, on the IO side of the PCB, we have the WM7628N-A module, which is a pretty decent 300Mbps WiFi module running the OpenWRT LuCi based operating system. Behind the Ethernet port is a “THT” (Through Hole) POE power supply which effectively steps down 48V to 12V.

Overall, the hardware is designed to be very cost effective and reliable. I would rate the hardware 10/10. It is efficient, has minimal heat loss, and has a reasonable package size.
I would recommend this hardware for anyone wanting to try out a basic LoRaWAN setup.
enjoy!!
