We were fans of the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G when we reviewed it back in 2023, but there were some areas that needed improvement, from the disappointing IPS LCD display technology to the poor performance on offer. did.
But this year’s Samsung Galaxy A15 5G looks to address some of those complaints, while also being £10 cheaper than its predecessor.
While we haven’t reviewed the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G yet, we’ve spent a good amount of time with the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G. Compare the two to determine which one best suits your needs.
Samsung Galaxy A15 5G has upgraded screen technology
When it comes to screen technology, the new Samsung Galaxy A15 5G is definitely the smartphone to choose. The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G has a fairly standard IPS LCD display, but the new model has been upgraded to Super AMOLED screen technology.
Considering that we felt the use of an LCD screen was one of the Galaxy A14 5G’s major drawbacks, it’s a smart move for Samsung to upgrade the technology with its latest model. The new model has smaller bezels around the screen than its predecessor. Although it has no functional purpose, it does mean that the updated model looks newer and slightly more upscale.
Elsewhere, however, the screen experience is pretty much the same no matter which you choose.
The Galaxy A15 5G shares the same 90Hz refresh rate and FHD+ resolution as its predecessor, but this time it’s 0.1 inch smaller at 6.5 inches. However, with such slight differences, you probably won’t be able to tell the difference from the Galaxy A14 5G’s larger 6.6-inch panel in everyday use.
The Samsung Galaxy A14 5G utilized the entry-level 7nm MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, which during our review we found to be good, if not a little slower, and in our benchmark tests, compared to a similar priced Some of the alternatives got better scores.
By default, it’s paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, but the latter can be expanded using a microSD card.
The new Galaxy A15 5G doesn’t completely change its processing power enough to compete with more premium options, but it should at least be a little faster thanks to the more efficient 6nm MediaTek Dimensity 6100+.
You can also benefit from more RAM and storage, with 4, 6, or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage, depending on your location.
We haven’t benchmarked the Galaxy A15 5G yet, but given it uses an improved processor, we wouldn’t be surprised if it outperforms last year’s model. As soon as we know for sure, we’ll be sure to update this section.
Samsung Galaxy A15 5G has a slightly better camera setup
The Samsung Galaxy A15 5G continues to improve the camera experience offered in the company’s budget range, and during testing, especially considering the price, it featured the same 50MP primary sensor as its predecessor, upgraded with a 2MP macro lens. Features a 5MP ultra-wide sensor.
The latter replaces the near-useless 2MP depth sensor on the Galaxy A14 5G, essentially turning a crappy lens into a usable one, but with a resolution of 5MP, that replacement is barely worth it. It will be difficult to surprise consumers.
That said, at least the new ultra-wide-angle lens makes the Galaxy A15 5G more versatile than its predecessor.
Samsung Galaxy A14 5G is now even cheaper
Samsung Galaxy A15 5G and Galaxy A14 5G are both budget smartphones with prices to match. Specifically, the Galaxy A15 5G is priced at an attractive £199, which is £20 cheaper than the Galaxy A14 5G’s RRP of £219 a year ago.
However, since the release of the new Galaxy A15 5G, the price of the A14 5G has fallen further, dropping to just £136 at the time of writing.
So if upgraded display technology, new processors, and ultrawide cameras don’t really appeal to your needs, you could potentially save a significant amount of money by choosing an older model.
