The company helps shape the future of 6G technology through its heritage and reputation in AI and wireless communications
Samsung Electronics announces participation in AI-RAN1 We partnered as founding members with the aim of promoting 6G innovation by combining AI technology and wireless communication technology.
Officially launched today at Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2024, the AI-RAN Alliance is an organization dedicated to energizing the convergence of AI and wireless communications and leading innovation through collaboration with related companies. A total of 11 organizations are participating as founding members, including Samsung, Arm, Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia, NVIDIA, SoftBank, and Northeastern University. Through this new partnership, we will work together to develop innovative new technologies and apply these technologies to commercial products for the coming 6G era.
“Emerging services in the 6G era will revolutionize the way people interact with technology, and AI will be an integral part of this trend,” said Charlie Chan, senior vice president, Samsung Research America. . “The AI-RAN Alliance will foster collaboration, drive innovation, and usher in a new era of transformation centered around AI and his 6G network. We believe that this will create new value for end users and operators.”
The AI-RAN Alliance aims to combine AI and wireless communication technologies to apply them in various fields, build an ecosystem, and ultimately expand new business opportunities. To this end, we have established three technical research working groups: AI for RAN, AI and RAN, and AI on RAN. AI for RAN focuses on technology that utilizes AI/ML2 Improve RAN spectrum, cost, and energy efficiency. AI and RAN focuses on AI and wireless network convergence technologies for both efficient resource management and maximizing infrastructure utilization. AI on RAN focuses on discovering new AI applications and services in wireless networks. The results of these activities, such as technical reports and white papers, are expected to greatly contribute to the future standardization and commercialization of 6G. This includes discovering new services, technical requirements and specifications.
Samsung plans to use this partnership to lead technology fusion and service innovation that combines AI and wireless communication technology. The company is also committed to leading the 6G ecosystem with industry-leading positions in AI and wireless communications solutions, including semiconductors, AI hardware and software technologies, and wireless communications systems and terminals.
Samsung Research established the Advanced Communications Research Center (ACRC) in May 2019 to lead the development of 6G technology. Since then, Samsung Research has announced that the 6G White Paper and 6G Spectrum White Paper will be released in July 2020 and May 2022, respectively. In May 2022, Samsung hosted the 1st Samsung 6G Forum, demonstrating its leadership in next-generation communications research and development.
Samsung Research has continuously evolved its 6G technology strategy to adapt to the changing communications industry landscape. In particular, in relation to the AI-RAN Alliance, Samsung Research envisages that AI-Native will become a key attribute of his future 6G networks. Samsung Research believes that as AI becomes a natural part of his 6G system capabilities, future networks will have significantly greater capacity and coverage, be fully automated, and be more energy efficient. Samsung Research will continue to lead innovation with the goal of successfully launching and commercializing future next-generation communication systems.
