munich—Rohde & Schwarz will unveil its complete 5G broadcast ecosystem at Mobile World Congress 2024, February 26-29 in Gran Via | Fira Barcelona Convention Center in Barcelona.
The presentation will highlight systems that are ready for deployment and provide a path to additional revenue, the company said.
5G broadcast is a one-to-many transmission standard that is part of the 3GPP specifications. Media broadcasts can be received on suitable mobile devices without a SIM card. The company says this format provides data broadcasting, making it ideal for updating IoT devices and automotive applications.
Rohde & Schwarz has played a key role in standardization, ensuring widespread acceptance of this technology, including collaboration with ETSI JTC Broadcast and 5G-MAG. Thanks to this effort, ITU approved his 5G broadcast as the next generation DTT standard worldwide. The company says the result is more agile utilization of the entire UHF spectrum, a step towards a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future for the industry.
“For network operators, the addition of 5G broadcast is a simple upgrade to Rohde & Schwarz transmitters,” said Thomas Janner, Director R&D Broadcast Applications at Rohde & Schwarz.
“For the first time, there is a practical and economical route to further enhance the mobile phone proposition and enable true mobile TV without increasing network congestion. “There is a huge opportunity in delivery services,” he said.
“These data services are being delivered at a time when they are desperately needed for delivery to vehicles and IoT, and 5G broadcast is poised to capture these new revenue streams, and overall will bring benefits.”
