Qualcomm, the largest smartphone processor, and the Center have agreed to collaborate to create a development roadmap for industrial, automotive and communication electronics, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnau said here on Thursday.
The Union Minister for Railways, Telecommunications and Electronics and Information Technology said that US-based Qualcomm will also set up a 6G lab in parallel with the 100 5G labs set up in the country in collaboration with the Center and state governments. He said he agreed.

Vaishnaw inaugurated the Qualcomm Chennai Design Center, which was set up with an investment of Rs 177.27 crore.
The facility will be located on the famous Old Mahabalipuram Road, commonly known as the Information Technology Corridor, and will specialize in wireless connectivity solutions with an emphasis on innovations that complement Wi-Fi technology.
“The Qualcomm Design Center has a highly talented semiconductor design team of approximately 1,600 people working at the facility.Tamil Nadu is a great talent state. We have created technology and today’s Qualcomm Design Center is another milestone in the talent journey of Tamil Nadu,” Vaishnau told reporters after visiting the design centre.
Elaborating on the centre, he said, “What is special about this center is that semiconductor design is done end-to-end. Deaf,” he said. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision is to design, manufacture and ATMP (assembly, test, marking and packaging) facilities. ”
The investments made at the design center will open new doors for semiconductor design in line with the ‘Make in India’ campaign and unlock growth opportunities for a strong indigenous design ecosystem.

“Bringing this value chain to India is very important. I am very happy to see all parts of the (semiconductor industry) value chain in place at today’s inauguration ceremony. In the next term, we ask you to build on this and create a strong industry for our country,” he said.
Prior to this, Mr. Vaishnault had a brief interaction with Mr. Cristiano Amon, President and Chief Executive Officer of Qualcomm, during which he said that Qualcomm is partnering with the government and state governments of India to He said he agreed to create the map. Qualcomm said in a statement that it has launched a program to support 6G university research in India, in line with the Center’s Bharat 6G Vision, which encourages academic research and leadership in emerging 6G technologies.
