Qantas has revealed what customers can expect from the A220 when the new aircraft enters service in March 2024, as well as accelerating its WiFi rollout and major investments in digital experiences.

Qantas Group has revealed what customers can expect from its Airbus A220 aircraft when the new aircraft begins commercial flights in March 2024 as part of a multi-billion dollar investment pipeline over the next few years. revealed.

QantasLink will take delivery of the first two of 29 Airbus A220 aircraft, which will steadily replace its long-serving Boeing 717 fleet. Here are the key features customers can expect:

  • There is space for a total of 137 passengers in two cabins, with 10 business seats in a 2-2 configuration and 127 economy seats in a 2-3 configuration.
  • The largest windows of any single-aisle aircraft and a more spacious cabin.
  • Fast and free WiFi helps customers stay connected, as well as an improved Qantas Entertainment app to stream content to their devices.
  • Integrated personal device holder and USB A and C charging in both Economy and Business. Additional wireless charging pad for Business.
  • More comfortable economy seats with added padding compared to the 717.
  • Overhead locker space for all customers will be increased by approximately 20%.
  • Reduce your noise footprint by up to 50% and your carbon footprint by 25%.

Qantas is introducing fast and free WiFi to its existing international fleet, with plans to roll out the service in stages from the end of 2024.

The airline provides “fast and free” international WiFi with enough bandwidth for all passengers to enjoy fast and stable connections. The service leverages Viasat’s latest technology to provide international passengers with the ability to stream movies, TV shows, the latest breaking news and live sports.

Qantas’ A330, B787 and A380 aircraft will be retrofitted in stages to enable connectivity to Viasat’s expanding next-generation satellite network. New aircraft currently on order, such as the A350 and B787, will be WiFi-enabled upon delivery.

Meanwhile, Qantas and Jetstar customers will see a major overhaul across their digital channels as the airline continues to roll out improvements to make it easier to manage ground movement, including during disruptions. The multi-million dollar investment in new technology over three years includes:

  • The Qantas app has undergone a major evolution to offer more features. Customers can now track their baggage at different stages of their journey. New features are introduced monthly, including enhanced baggage tracking, flight tracking, improved status updates during disruptions, and updates on customer inquiries.
  • Starting in mid-2024, qantas.com will be completely overhauled to make it significantly faster and easier to use.
  • Jetstar recently launched online check-in for international flights. This allows for a faster and more efficient experience at the airport, and the new app provides better service with live notifications of gate or flight updates.

“We are investing significantly in new aircraft that represent a step change from alternative technologies,” Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson said. “We know that staying connected is important for our international customers and we have deliberately waited for the same high-speed connections that we use domestically to be available internationally. New widebody aircraft ordered in the next few years will be equipped with high-speed WiFi, and today we announced that it will be available on existing long-range aircraft starting in late 2024. Satellite launches will significantly expand coverage. Every investment we make supports the great work our employees do every day to provide the best experience for our customers, and our The aim is to restore pride and confidence in the airline.”
