Monitor Audio has been manufacturing high-quality speakers in Cambridge, England, for over 50 years. The company continues to steadily update and innovate its products. This year alone, it released the Studio 89 standmount speakers and the outdoor Climate Series speakers. But today, the company updated its Gold Series speaker line, with prices ranging from $2,250 to $7,000 per pair.
The sixth generation of new monitor audio Gold Series 6G It replaces the Gold Series 5G from 2019. The new series incorporates many of the innovations implemented from the company’s flagship Platinum Series and Hyphn speakers, and also adds an in-wall speaker option.
Monitor Audio’s Gold Series 6G now sits between the Silver Series 7G and Platinum Series 3G and is designed to offer two-channel and home theatre solutions at a competitive price in a contemporary finish.
There are six models in the Gold Series 6G speaker lineup.

Features of Gold 6G

Transparent design philosophyThe Gold Series 6G speakers continue Monitor Audio’s research and development approach of maintaining a balance between design and technology, where both are equally important.
Musical neutrality and acoustic transparency are balanced within the speaker’s physical design to optimally blend into the environment in which it is used.
Metal cone: The Gold Series 6G incorporates a new metal cone. Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology (HDT)HDT employs the RDT III cone used in the groundbreaking Hyphn and flagship Platinum Series 3G, which consists of a Nomex honeycomb layer sandwiched between aluminum and carbon fiber skins.
The HDT cone employs a new hexagonal pattern that breaks the symmetry in the cone split, producing a cone that shifts up in frequency by 10% compared to the RST II cone found on the Silver Series 7G.
The new cones also incorporate Monitor Audio’s exclusive C-CAM technology, which supports stronger, more fatigue-resistant cones.
As a result, the new HDT, C-CAM cone is one of the strongest, most piston-like cones Monitor Audio has ever developed.
HDT and C-CAM cones are used across the 6G model series, including the new 3-inch mid-frequency driver, 6-inch low-midrange unit, and 6-inch and 8-inch bass drivers.
Tweeter Technology: In addition to the HDT and C-CAM cones, an improved version of Monitor Audio’s MPD III (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) transducer is used for high frequencies (this is similar to the tweeters used in the Hyphn and Platinum Series speakers). This design delivers accurate high-frequency sound with improved consistency, clarity and precision.
Crossover DesignThe Gold Series 6G crossovers are optimized for in-room performance, enhancing the performance of the new On-Wall 6G models, which are more suited to custom installations than traditional Hi-Fi.
Cabinet Design: All Gold Series 6G cabinets are engineered to form the most rigid structure possible to enable the drivers to perform at their best. Top trim detail on the 100 and 500 models allows the MPD III high frequency transducer to be placed at the top of the cabinet.
This improves cabinet edge diffraction on the larger models, resulting in consistent, accurate imaging across the entire frequency range.

First impressions
The Gold 6G Series incorporates key innovations from Monitor’s flagship line, making it a strong offering, but in the sub-$7,000 (USD) speaker segment it enters a highly competitive field, competing with the likes of the Bowers & Wilkins 700 S3 Series, Focal Aria Evo X Series and KEF R Meta Series.
On the other hand, the Gold Series 6G offers a significant cost saving over the flagship Platinum Series and may even close the performance gap. We’re definitely intrigued and hope to get to listen to them soon.
