Poco will be making its debut in the tablet market tomorrow, August 23. The company is set to launch its first tablet, the Poco Pad 5G. Ahead of the launch event, Poco has confirmed a number of details about the tablet, including tentative pricing, battery capacity, and design details. The company has confirmed that the Poco Pad 5G will be powered by a 10,000mAh battery. It has also been announced that the tablet will come with a 12-bit 2.5K resolution display. Additionally, Poco has also revealed that the Poco Pad 5G will be priced under Rs 24,000.
Poco claims that the tablet is not just a debut but “represents a pivotal evolution for POCO.” This is an interesting claim, given the rumors that the Poco Pad 5G will be a rebranded Redmi Pad Pro 5G. We too have a Poco Pad 5G and design-wise the Poco Pad is identical to the Redmi Pad Pro 5G. The suggested price of the Poco Pad 5G also matches that of the Redmi Pad Pro, with the latter being launched in India starting at Rs 24,999.
We won’t know the final specifications of the Poco Pad until it launches in India tomorrow, but if the rumours that this is a re-banded version of the Redmi Pad Pro are true, then a look at the specs will give us an idea of what to expect from the Poco Pad.
The Redmi Pad Pro 5G has been launched in India with a 12.1-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 600nits peak brightness. The display uses TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset and offers up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable storage. The tablet includes 8-megapixel front and rear cameras, quad speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and a 10,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. It runs on Xiaomi HyperOS based on Android 14 and also supports 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth v5.2.
Additionally, the Redmi Pad Pro also came with separate accessories like a keyboard, stylus, etc. For now, Poco has not revealed anything about the accessories that will come with the Poco Pad 5G.
While the rumor of rebranding is yet to be confirmed, looking at the specs of the global variant of the Poco Pad, it seems to be true. According to the Poco Global website, the Poco Pad will also feature a 12.1-inch 2.5K display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 600 nits brightness. It will have a 10,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging support. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor and will run the new HyperOS. The global variant of the Poco Pad will also feature 8-megapixel front and rear cameras and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Features such as Home Screen+, shared clipboard, and Mi Canvas are also making their debut on the global variant of the Poco Pad.
It will be interesting to see how Poco “evolves” with its new tablet launches. According to a recent IDC report, global tablet shipments in Q2 2024 are expected to grow 22.1% year-over-year, indicating growing demand for tablets. However, the market for affordable tablets remains relatively small, so Poco’s entry into this space is a timely and welcome move.
