Next-generation wireless mobile network technology delivers downlink speeds of up to 10 Gbps on smartphones for the first time, targeting both enterprises and consumers. Oppo Find X7 and Oppo Find X7 Ultra, powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, are the first set of phones in China to include this new feature.
According to mobile networking equipment provider Nokia, “5G-Advanced unlocks the richest capabilities of 5G in the next decade, breaking boundaries and expanding connectivity. From immersive augmented reality (XR) experiences. From precision location to presence and timing technologies, 5G-Advanced will revolutionize what networks can do.โ
According to official documentation, 5.5G or 5G-A technology can provide peak downlink speeds of up to 10 Gbps and peak uplink speeds of 1 Gbps. This is part of Release 18 of the 3GPP standards body. Not only that, 5.5G technology is said to bridge the gap between 5G and 6G networks due to its lower latency and higher network reliability, in addition to energy savings, compared to 5G.
5.5G (5G-A) is set to benefit not only consumer applications, but also industry and enterprises, and will operate in the 6 GHz and millimeter wave spectrum bands. 5G-Advanced technology is also said to power mobile XR virtual experiences such as cloud gaming.
