Oppo F27 Pro+ 5G review: In the world of smartphones, companies are constantly competing with each other with the latest features and the best price, which makes it interesting for us as consumers. Joining the fray, Oppo has recently launched the Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G in India. The device is powered by a MediaTek chipset and a Full HD+ display, combining powerful performance with exceptional durability.

Meanwhile, the phone is touted as the country’s first IP69 rated smartphone, marking a big step for Oppo by incorporating military-grade durability into its F-series for the first time. In this review, we look at key features, performance metrics and user experience to determine whether the Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G lives up to expectations and is worth the investment.

The Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G impresses with its sleek design and solid build. The device is available in two colors, Dusk Pink and Midnight Navy, and I reviewed the Midnight Navy model. The back panel has a smudge-resistant siloxane coating that helps maintain a clean appearance. The high-quality materials not only make it look beautiful, but also make it feel sturdy and premium in your hand.

The back of this phone is pretty cool. It has a round camera bump, two lenses, and a flash, but instead of a separate camera they put a microphone to make it look simple. This definitely gives the phone a clean look. The material on the back is a mix of premium vegan leather with a plastic stripe down the middle. It feels good in the hand and the curved edges make it even more comfortable. Though the frame is plastic, the phone is pretty thin and lightweight at just under 7.58mm and 177 grams. On the front is a curved screen with not the thinnest of edges around it, but it’s totally fine for a phone in this price range.

But what really sets the F27 Pro Plus 5G apart is its exceptional durability. It’s the first phone to offer the highest levels of dust and water resistance with IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings. According to Oppo, this means the device can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, as well as being submerged in water for up to 30 minutes. This makes the phone extremely durable and able to withstand a variety of harsh conditions. Additionally, the display can be operated with wet fingers, and the phone boasts 360-degree Armour Body protection and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

In my own testing, I submerged the phone in a 5 liter container of water for about 15 minutes and it continued to function perfectly fine. Just to be on the safe side, if your Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G gets wet, make sure to dry it completely before charging it.

The Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G features a beautiful 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The unique Splash Touch feature allows for seamless use even with wet fingers, making it ideal for those with active lifestyles. During a demo during Oppo’s factory visit, the phone was submerged in water for an hour and then exposed to powerful water jets, and still continued to function perfectly, demonstrating its incredible durability.

This display has excellent color reproduction and viewing angles, providing a great multimedia experience. The peak brightness of 950 nits may not be the highest on the market, but it’s more than enough for most lighting conditions, including bright sunlight. AMOLED technology delivers vibrant colors and deep blacks for improved activities like watching movies, gaming, and web browsing.

Additionally, the display supports Widevine L1 and HDR10+ certification, ensuring compatibility with high-definition streaming services and superior video playback quality.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G: Performance and Software

The Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset. (Ijaj Khan/ HT Tech)

The Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G is equipped with the same MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chipset as its predecessor. This chipset handles everyday tasks efficiently but is not the strongest option in its class. For users interested in heavy gaming and demanding applications, there may be more powerful alternatives available in this price range. We tested games like BGMI and Free Fire Max at full graphics and the device performed well initially but started to heat up and lag after prolonged use. However, lowering the graphics settings maintained smooth performance without any issues.

The phone runs on ColorOS 14 based on Android 14, offering a smooth and customizable user experience. With the standard 8GB RAM, multitasking is seamless and most apps run smoothly, whether you’re binge-watching, browsing, scrolling through Instagram or anything else.

Unfortunately, the software experience is somewhat marred by the presence of bloatware. The phone comes preloaded with a number of games and a Glance lock screen that may be annoying for some users. These can be uninstalled, but may be a nuisance at first.

On the bright side, Oppo is slowly rolling out AI features to ColorOS. The AI Eraser in the Photos app is particularly impressive, allowing you to seamlessly remove small objects from images as if they were never there.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G review: Camera

The Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G offers a somewhat mixed camera experience overall, but the main 64MP sensor performs well in good lighting conditions, taking detailed shots with plenty of dynamic range. Photos tend to have a warmer tone with prominent shadows, adding a sense of drama and making them particularly suitable for social media without the need for much editing.

Portrait mode uses the main camera with some software tweaks to create a sense of depth and accurately detect skin tones, but in low light, the main camera’s dynamic range and white balance can be a bit off, resulting in a loss of detail. Nighttime photos are decent but not outstanding.

For video, you can shoot in 4K 30fps or 1080p 60fps, which is good at this price point, but there’s no optical image stabilization, so fast-moving shots might be a bit shaky, which may be fixed in a later update.

There’s also a 2MP depth sensor for portraits, but its effectiveness in practice is questionable. The portrait mode itself works well, with well-defined edges and a natural blur effect (bokeh). Skin tones can sometimes be too bright, and you need to get your subject quite close.

The 8MP camera on the front can capture detailed selfies and videos, which is a plus. Overall, the camera on the Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G performs well enough for casual photography and sharing on social media, but there is room for improvement in low light and video stabilization.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G review: Battery performance

₹32,999 Built to last” title=”The Oppo F27 Pro Plus boasts of a long-lasting 5,000mAh battery that supports 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging.”>

The Oppo F27 Pro Plus is powered by a long-lasting 5,000mAh battery with 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging support. (Ijaj Khan/ HT Tech)

Battery life is crucial for any smartphone, and the Oppo F27 Pro Plus excels in this regard. Equipped with a large 5,000mAh battery and 67W SUPERVOOC fast charging (included in the package), the smartphone can be fully charged in about 50 minutes using the included charger. On a single charge, moderate users can enjoy up to 7 hours of screen time, making it a reliable partner for everyday tasks. Even in more intensive usage scenarios, such as light gaming and frequent camera use, with high refresh rate enabled, the OPPO F27 Pro Plus can power through a full day. Even in flight mode with 50% battery, it lasted for more than 19 hours, proving its durability in a variety of situations.

Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G review

The Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G is a stylish, durable smartphone with a long-lasting battery. It’s rated IP66, IP68, and IP69 for durability, making it ideal for clumsy users and those in harsh environments. The display is beautiful and functional, and can be operated even with wet fingers.

But while the camera system is good enough for everyday use, its low-light performance leaves room for improvement, and the phone comes with some bloatware that can be annoying.

If durability, battery life, and stylish design are your priorities, the Oppo F27 Pro Plus 5G is a solid choice, but if you’re a power user or photography enthusiast, there may be better options in this price range.
