Nvidia has announced the availability of a 6G research platform that will enable researchers to develop the next stage of wireless technology.
The Nvidia 6G Research Cloud platform is open, flexible and interconnected, providing researchers with a comprehensive suite to advance AI in radio access network (RAN) technology, the company said.
Nvidia said initial adopters and ecosystem partners include Ansys, Arm, ETH Zurich, Fujitsu, Keysight Technologies, Nokia, Northeastern University, Rohde & Schwarz, Samsung, SoftBank, and Viavi Solutions.
“The massive increase in connected devices and numerous new applications in 6G requires a significant leap forward in radio spectrum efficiency in wireless communications,” said Ronnie Basishta, senior vice president of communications at Nvidia. “The key to achieving this is the use of AI, a full software-defined RAN reference stack, and next-generation digital twin technology.”
The Nvidia 6G Research Cloud Platform consists of the Nvidia Airborne Omniverse Digital Twin for 6G. This is a reference application and developer sample that enables physically accurate simulation of a complete 6G system. According to the vendor, it incorporates a software-defined RAN and user equipment simulator, along with realistic terrain and object properties.
It also includes Nvidia Aerial CUDA-Accelerated RAN, a full software-defined RAN stack that allows researchers to customize, program, and test 6G networks in real-time.
The 6G platform also features the Nvidia Sionna Neural Radio Framework. It is a framework that provides seamless integration with popular frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow to generate and capture data using Nvidia GPUs to train AI and machine learning models at scale. .
“The future convergence of 6G and AI has the potential to transform the technology landscape,” said Charlie Zhang, senior vice president of Samsung Research America. “This will enable seamless connectivity and intelligent systems that will redefine how we interact with the digital world and usher in an era of unparalleled innovation and connectivity.”
“Ansys is committed to advancing the mission of the 6G Research Cloud by seamlessly integrating the state-of-the-art Ansys Perceive EM solver into the Omniverse ecosystem,” said Ansys Program Director, 5G/6G and Space. said one Shawn Carpenter. “Perceive EM revolutionizes the creation of digital twins for 6G systems. We have no doubt that the convergence of NVIDIA and Ansys technology will pave the way for his AI-enabled 6G communications systems.”
