Paris is a key market for NTT’s ongoing European data center footprint expansion plans.
“This investment complements our existing and growing presence in Frankfurt, London and Amsterdam,” said Florian Winkler, Chief Executive Officer EMEA and Global Chief Operating Officer of NTT Global Data Centers. It completes our footprint in the European FLAP Tier 1 market.” “We will work closely with local authorities, partners and governments to grow our presence in the Paris metropolitan area.
This is NTT GDC’s first French campus, although NTT Communications has previously listed a data center in Paris. Paris 2 was located at 88 Champs-Elysées in the heart of the capital.
long history of high technology
NTT is proceeding with construction through a partnership with Logistics Capital Partners. Logistics Capital Partners first acquired the former brownfield site through public auction in 2019 and subsequently managed the demolition, cleanup, and obtained the necessary permits and power connections for data center use.
Logistics Capital Partners (LCP), a pan-European industrial land investor and developer, will remain strategically involved in supporting the development and delivery of this new campus.
Since its founding in 2015, LCP has developed over 10 million square feet of logistics and industrial assets in Europe.
It is fitting that NTT would locate its newest data center in a location with a long history as a high-tech hub and known as the Data Village.
For more than 70 years, the Data Village site was used first by IBM and later by Altis to manufacture semiconductor electronic components for a variety of industries. In 2018, Altis went bankrupt and was acquired by Xfab, but the unused land (on which an abandoned building stands) was sold to LCP.
After acquiring the site, LCP began developing a 125MW IT data center campus, divided into two 50MW IT units and a third 25MW IT unit, according to LCP’s website. To enable this development, LCP has secured 125 MW of commercial power in RTE, expandable up to 210 MW.
Global growth plan
The Paris expansion is part of NTT’s $10 billion global investment for growth last year across 10 data centers in the US, India, Germany and Malaysia.
In addition to Paris, NTT announced that it will open new data center campuses in Virginia, USA, and Noida and Chennai, India.
It also aligns with the company’s two main goals: meeting the world’s growing data needs and working towards achieving net zero emissions targets for its operations, including sourcing 100% renewable energy by 2030. I will work on it.
