Mobile device giant Nokia has announced that it is partnering with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to jointly research 6G technology and 6G use cases that have a direct impact on society in India.
This follows the establishment of Nokia’s 6G Lab at the Global Research and Development Center in Bangalore in 2023 to accelerate the development of fundamental technologies and foster collaboration between Nokia and the Indian academic community. be.

Nokia and IISc will collaborate at the 6G Lab in Bangalore to pursue three core research areas: 6G radio technology, 6G architecture, and the application of machine learning to 6G air interface.
The collaboration will develop reference architectures, software frameworks, and algorithms with the aim of contributing joint research to the 6G technology and standards ecosystem.

While the nature of the research is global, Nokia and IISc will specifically focus on 6G use cases addressing areas of particular importance to India, according to an official release.
Nokia and IISc will work to build a more sustainable and energy-efficient communications system. We will also work to improve network resiliency and reliability for critical communications.
Additionally, developments in AI and “network as sensor” technologies will be used to improve transportation safety, strengthen healthcare, and increase access to education.
