Telecommunications equipment maker Nokia has partnered with Telecom Egypt to bring 5G technology to Egypt for the first time.
The collaboration aims to revolutionize the country’s telecommunications industry by introducing the transformative power of 5G to cities such as Alexandria, Aswan, Cairo, Giza and Luxor.
Nokia will deliver its comprehensive AirScale portfolio, aiming to provide Telecom Egypt’s customers with a superior network experience, including faster data speeds, enhanced performance and capacity. Deployment is expected to take place in the second half of 2024.
Under the agreement, Nokia will deploy 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) equipment from its industry-leading AirScale portfolio, consisting of baseband units and the latest generation of Massive MIMO radios. These solutions leverage Nokia’s energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology to deliver extensive 5G capacity and coverage for ease of deployment. Nokia will also provide a range of professional services including implementation, integration and network optimization.
5G technology offers numerous benefits, including increased capacity that will enable seamless connectivity in some of Egypt’s most densely populated areas. This will support a wide range of applications and services, enabling faster downloads, smoother streaming and improved network performance. This advancement will unlock unprecedented levels of innovation and efficiency across sectors, enabling organizations to thrive in today’s rapidly changing digital environment.
Earlier this year, Telecom Egypt became the country’s first 15-year 5G license.
