Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has announced a partnership with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to jointly research 6G technology and its use cases that have direct social impact in India. The company will work with IISc at its new 6G lab in Bangalore to explore the application of machine learning to 6G radio technology, 6G architecture and 6G air interface, the company said in a statement.
“India’s importance on the global telecommunications stage cannot be overstated. We are proud to work with our talent and explore India’s unique 6G use cases to ensure 6G meets the unique needs of the subcontinent,” said Nokia’s Chief Strategy and Technology Officer. said Nishant Batra in a statement.
The partnership will help develop reference architectures, software frameworks, and algorithms with the aim of contributing joint research to 6G technologies and standards. Although the research itself is global, Nokia and IISc will focus on how the technology is relevant to India, the release said.
We will also work to build more sustainable and energy-efficient communication systems. It also improves network resiliency and reliability for critical communications. Additionally, we will use AI to develop “network-as-sensor” technology to improve transportation safety, expand health care, and improve access to education.
