On Thursday, March 14, submarine cable providers were affected by a major cut in their submarine cables, disrupting internet traffic in parts of the continent.
The unrest spread to South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Cameroon and Benin, the BBC reported.

West Africa Cable System (WACS), Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), MainOne, and SAT3 cables were affected. The disruption has so far had a major impact on affected areas and local businesses, and disrupted the daily lives of residents.
Legit.ng Sources within MTN Group and MainOne revealed on Wednesday, March 13, that several major undersea cables had broken, and said the company was responsible for the internet connection failure.

MainOne Provides Latest Information on Submarine Cable Repairs
Legit.ng We previously reported that MainOne, a company that provides digital infrastructure services in West Africa, has announced that it could take another two to three weeks for ships to collect replacement parts for undersea cables and sail from Europe to West Africa.
They said an external incident caused the network failure. Initial investigations revealed a break in the undersea cable system off the coast of Ivory Coast in the Atlantic Ocean.
