HOWELL — An online sneaker seller was robbed by a gunman Tuesday afternoon.
Monmouth County Attorney Raymond Santiago said Giancarlo Nevarez, of the Clarksburg section of Millstone, was contacted by the victim through a social media platform and offered to sell him several pairs of high-end sneakers.
The two sides agreed to meet at a location in the 4200 block of Route 9 South.
When the victim submitted the sneakers for inspection, Navarez displayed a gun, fired a shot, and left with the sneakers. The victim was not hit and no one was injured, Santiago said.
A safe place to sell
Nevarez was charged with first-degree armed robbery, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon. he has not been arrested.
Santiago asked anyone with information to call the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443 or the Howell Police Department at 732-938-4111.
The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office has set up a secure exchange zone for Internet transactions at its office on Kozloski Street in Freehold, which is monitored 24 hours a day. Marked spaces in the parking lot can be used to exchange goods, child custody matters, or conduct personal property transactions.
