Dinova CEO Alison Quinn said, “Business dining is emerging as an important relationship and culture-building tool in the post-COVID-19 era.” “Our report reveals significant growth opportunities in the catering industry.”
Since 2020, this report has used Dinova’s proprietary corporate cardholder data and Technomic’s consumer insights to analyze the recovery in business dining as measured by BDIndex. Highlights from the latest report include:
- BDIndex reached 103 in Q3 2023 and 98 in Q4 2023.

Technomic, which recently published another study focused on off-site catering businesses, also highlighted the growing importance of catering as a revenue driver and strategic focus area for restaurants.
“The relatively flat traffic patterns driven by everyday events place great emphasis on catering services to increase transaction volume and scale,” said Rich Shank, Technomic’s senior principal and vice president of innovation. ”. “Understanding the changes in corporate catering needs and behaviors post-pandemic will be key to capturing that market share. With that in mind, we will be launching our External Catering Survey in the coming months. We are planning to release the latest version.”
The “State of Business Dining” report also analyzes key business catering use cases and key decision factors when choosing a restaurant, based on recent interviews with gatekeepers at large corporations.
“With costs remaining high, restaurants need to find creative ways to deliver value and increase revenue,” Quinn said. “Business catering is a lucrative path, and Dinova aims to not only inform but empower restaurants to position themselves strategically in this dynamic market.”
