Motorola’s budget cell phone division has introduced several new devices to the North American market: the $200 Moto G 5G and the $300 Moto G Power 5G. In theory, a little bit of your hard-earned money will give you a huge boost in specs. Let’s dig in with a ladle.
Moto G products these days are, if anything, better. lackluster. These phones essentially reflect Motorola’s continued struggle to find a foothold in the highly competitive budget and mid-range mobile landscape. Under Lenovo’s ownership, sales have been slowly picking up, especially during the coronavirus pandemic, but even in the lucrative low-end market, phones like the Moto G are still struggling to make it to Samsung, for example. It doesn’t have the same prestige as Xiaomi’s mobile phone.

Introducing the 2024 Motorola Moto G 5G and Power 5G. These two phones do away with the solid design, underperforming hardware, teardrop-shaped front cameras, and other pointless camera sensors that users of older models tolerated. Both models now have a plush vegan leather back cover and (finally!) added NFC for convenient contactless pairing and payments.
The Moto G Power 5G also adds 15W wireless charging capability, which is nice to see on a $300 device. On the front is a 6.7-inch 1080p 120Hz LCD. Samsung’s A15 and Nothing Phone (2a) offer very good OLED panels, so not having OLED in 2024 would be a missed opportunity to wow the audience. Under the hood, Motorola uses a fairly fast MediaTek Dimensity 7020 midranger paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. Motorola has also stuck to the camera basics, with just a 50MP primary OIS sensor and an 8MP ultrawide/macro.
Priced at $200, the Moto G 5G features a 6.6-inch 720p 120Hz LCD and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 paired with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The rear shooter is a 50MP unit with a 2MP macro. Basically, the phone is what’s at the bottom of the barrel available.
As for charging, both models are equipped with a 5000mAH battery. Power 5G provides 30W compared to 15W of G 5G.
According to Motorola, the 2024 Moto G Power 5G will be available on Cricket starting March 22nd, and will be available on other carriers later. Moto G 5G will be available on T-Mobile on March 21st, followed by other carriers.
