Monitor Audio has announced its Gold Series 6G speakers, a sixth-generation range that it says represents major advances in both design and sonic performance. The line includes six models for two-channel and home theatre use, priced from £1,000 per pair for the On-Wall 6G to £5,500 for the flagship Gold 500 6G.
At the heart of the Gold Series 6G’s performance is the introduction of Hexagonal Diaphragm Technology (HDT), a new metal cone design inspired by the advanced RDT III cones featured in Monitor Audio’s flagship models, such as the Platinum Series 3G.
HDT cones feature a unique hexagonal pattern that breaks the symmetry of the cone split, improving frequency response by 10 percent over traditional designs. Combined with Monitor Audio’s proprietary C-CAM technology, these cones have increased strength and fatigue resistance, resulting in some of the most piston-like drivers the company has ever produced.
Another highlight of the Gold Series 6G is the inclusion of the MPD III (Micro Pleated Diaphragm) high frequency transducer. This third generation tweeter has been improved to deliver even greater consistency, clarity and precision in the high frequency range.
The Gold 500 6G is the flagship model in the range. It features an MPD III transducer, a 3″ midrange driver and twin 8″ bass drivers, all with HDT, C-CAM cones. Ideal for larger rooms and high-end audio setups, the Gold 500 6G is priced at £5,500 a pair.
Offering a more compact footprint is the Gold 300 6G. Aimed at those looking for high quality sound in a smaller space, it features the same MPD III transducer and 3″ midrange driver as the Gold 500, but also features twin 6″ bass drivers. Retail price is £4,000 a pair.
The Gold 100 6G is a three-way standmount speaker that delivers deep bass, realistic mids and crisp highs. It supports MPD III transducers with a 3″ midrange driver and one 8″ bass driver. The Gold 100 6G retails for £3,000 a pair.
The most compact model in the series is the Gold 50 6G. It’s a bookshelf model and costs £1,700 a pair, but it punches above its weight with its MPD III transducer and 6-inch low-mid driver. Integrators can consider it for smaller rooms or as part of a more complex audio setup.
A new addition to the Gold Series, the On-Wall 6G is designed for flexibility in your home cinema or AV setup. Its slim profile makes it ideal as a rear or side channel speaker or as a front LCR speaker for wall mounting in a home cinema system. It combines an MPD III transducer with a 6″ bass-mid driver. The Gold On-Wall 6G is priced at £1,000 per unit.
Finally, the Gold C250 6G is a compact three-way centre channel speaker. It features two 6″ bass drivers, one 3″ mid-range driver and an MPD III transducer. It retails for £1,700.
As you’d expect, Monitor Audio has paid special attention to the cabinet design of the Gold Series 6G: the enclosure is constructed with thick walls and internal bracing which, combined with through-bolt technology, minimises resonance and vibration.
New top trim detailing on the Gold 100 and 500 models optimises the placement of the MPD III transducer, which is said to enhance cabinet edge diffraction for improved imaging.
In addition to high gloss black and satin white, Gold Series 6G is also available in faux ebony veneer, giving you the luxurious look and reduced carbon emissions of real ebony.
The ST-2 speaker stands are also available for sale, priced at £550 a pair.
