Raising children is a wonderful experience, but sometimes it can be tough, and mothers may shy away from summer vacations because of the chaos that comes with having kids at home. But one mom has shared a totally different perspective on the situation, and it’s very enlightening. Corinne Ritz, also known as @mostdeliciouslife on TikTok, shared a video of what her home looks like after she left her kids alone for a while. She starts the video by standing outside her front door and saying, “Little PSA: Kids grow up.” She then explains, “I just ran some errands. I’m home now, so let me see what it’s like inside.”

She walked into the house, where it was tidy and her dog was sitting on the couch. “Well, at least they’re not fighting,” Ritz said with relief, and asked her dog, “Where are the kids?” “Are they in their rooms again? Ignoring me and each other? Quiet. You know what I mean? Summer used to be my least favorite thing, but now I hate it when they’re back to school and have a schedule,” she shared. In the caption, Ritz wrote that she hated summer not only because of the heat, but also the constant “whining, fighting, arguing, trying to keep them entertained, busy, etc.” It was exhausting.

She then reveals that things have changed since her kids grew up and three of them left home. She expresses how she feels about it: “Now when I come home, the only person who gets any attention is my dog. Before, I had six little kids, five of them boys, making a fuss and shuffling around my feet. Now, when my mom stops by, she walks in the door and is always asking, ‘Why is it so quiet?’ Why? Because they’re all grown up! Three of them are all grown up, and the 17-year-old is always working or out with friends. That’s the 14-year-old and the 12-year-old, that’s it.” Ritz goes on to explain, “When the kids are home, it’s quiet. Most of the time. The seasons change, and time passes,” before concluding the video by asking, “What season are you in right now?”

Many on the platform empathized with Ritz’s share, with @mandaridesunicorns commenting, “Thank you. My kid is in elementary school and I’m struggling with a month left.” @user9694009494840 wrote, “This is bittersweet for me! The house is so quiet and I can finally do what I love but sometimes I miss the cartoons playing in the background and the toys everywhere and little voices.” @mrsjhnsn confessed, “I have a 3, 4, 4 month old and I can’t breathe because they won’t leave me alone… but I can’t imagine there will ever be a day when they will leave me alone so this brought me to tears.”
@erin.s.campbell said, “I’m in the happy situation now with 2 grown children in their own homes. No grandchildren yet. Divorced, happily single, almost 50. Love the quiet life,” while @trilby86 wrote, “I’m still at the stage where the house is a mess and the floors are wet, but my oldest is 13 and running around all the time…it’s weird but it’s bittersweet to know we’re moving on to the next stage.”

Because they’re all grown up! 3 are fully grown up now, and the 17 year old is always working or out with friends. That’s all that’s left. It’s quiet when we’re at home. Most of the time.
