Technology giants Microsoft This week, initial approval was received to move forward with Phase 3. $3.3 billion Mount Pleasant data center projectThe Mount Pleasant Village Council has given the company permission to begin extensive clearing work on 791 acres of land it owns around 11508 Brown Road, just northwest of where Microsoft is already building 2.4 million square feet of data center space.
According to Microsoft’s current proposal, the third phase of development plans for an additional 2 million square feet of data center space in two two-story data center buildings and four one-story data center buildings.
Microsoft must get village approval of detailed site and building plans before construction can begin.
The new project nearly doubles the amount of data center space Microsoft is building in Mount Pleasant, totaling more than 4.4 million square feet. Work on the first part of the data center project began last year on about 215 acres at 4800 90th St. and will include three data center buildings totaling 1.1 million square feet. Earlier this year, Microsoft began development of a second data center complex in Mount Pleasant on about 115 acres just west of the first site. This data center complex will span about 1.3 million square feet. So far, all of Microsoft’s plans are for land within the boundaries of Mount Pleasant’s Tax Increment District No. 5, which was originally established to support Foxconn’s plans to build a large LCD screen manufacturing complex. Instead, Foxconn built a smaller complex that makes data servers. Microsoft owns about 1,600 acres in Mount Pleasant. We continue to collect more property north of TID 5The company has not commented on its plans for the property.
