Network testing and benchmarking company MedUX has today published new research examining the performance and quality of 5G (mobile broadband) networks across London, including EE (BT), O2 (VMO2), Vodafone and Three UK. The results show that, at least in the UK capital, EE is leading the way in most areas.
The new analysis is said to be based on “.Robust methodology” conducted 88,311 radio samples and 11,833 tests in Q3 2023 to assess the performance of all four major mobile network operators (MNOs) across various factors critical to 5G service quality. We evaluated how well they cover the UK capital. The London 5G QoE Benchmark report measures a combination of availability, accessibility, speed (broadband), streaming, data, and over-the-top (OTT) experience results to generate an overall QoE score.
Overall, EE provided the highest 5G registration rate (92% of the time) and the most consistent experience (99.6% service reliability), leading in areas such as accessibility, web navigation, gaming, and video streaming. The carrier was subject to his 22,709 wireless samples and his 3,040 tests against its network, which resulted inCustomers experience superior overall quality, fast loading video content, fast content retrieval times on social media and OTT services, a great gaming experience, and fast download speeds.” (Delivers speeds up to 800Mbps).
In terms of speed, Vodafone secured the lead in 5G download speeds, narrowly beating out EE by around 2 percentage points with a speed score of 87%. However, Three UK shined with upload performance (UL), achieving impressive speeds of up to 157Mbps. In the end, O2 almost managed to come out on top as the service offering the most reliable DNS resolution service, sharing a 92% DNS score with Three UK.
However, MedUX has also compiled a broader report at a European level (due to be published in the first half of February), which tentatively finds that London is in the worst situation overall compared to its European peers. It is shown in But for now, we only have a limited overview.
