The listed units of China’s three major carriers have announced their total subscriber numbers for January 2024. This included a net increase of approximately 2.29 billion 5G package subscribers in China, increasing the total number of 5G package subscribers to more than 1.375 billion. China Mobile (0941.HK; 600941.SH) reported an increase of 580,000 mobile phone subscribers in the month, bringing the carrier’s total number of mobile phone users to 991.58 million. China Mobile’s 5G package subscribers decreased by 4.999 billion in January to 789.51 million.
China Mobile defines a 5G package customer as a mobile customer who subscribes to a 5G tariff plan. Customers who share her 5G rate plan without subscribing are not included in the carrier’s total number of her 5G subscribers.

The 5G user base of China Broadnet, China’s fourth largest 5G communications network operator, is expected to exceed 23 million by the end of 2023, according to statistics released today by the China National Broadcasting and Television Administration.
