Africa may not be taking a leading position in the global 5G revolution, but its undeniable progress demonstrates the continent’s determination to harness the full potential of this transformative technology.
Many acknowledge that the internet revolution has the potential to leave a lasting impact on various industries, including healthcare, education, agriculture, etc. Encouragingly, some African countries are already feeling the tangible impact of this digital revolution at home.
According to a report by GlobalComms database services, which monitors 5G rollouts in the Middle East and Africa (MEA), commercial 5G services are available in 18 countries across the region, eight of which are in the Middle East and the remaining 10 are in Africa.
South Africa leads the African market with almost 5 million subscribers by the end of last year, while Mauritius lags far behind with just 80,000 subscribers.
