Harare, Zimbabwe – Liquid Intelligent Technologies has announced a groundbreaking partnership with leading US satellite communications company Globalstar to bring cutting edge 5G connectivity solutions to Zimbabwe, Africa, the Middle East and the Gulf region.
Globalstar, known for its constellation of low-orbit satellites, provides satellite telephony, data communications and Earth observation services. Under the terms of the new agreement, Liquid will gain exclusive distribution rights for Globalstar’s XCOM RAN private network 5G access solution in these regions.
The XCOM Radio Access Network (RAN) is designed to deliver high capacity and flexibility, making it ideal for private wireless networks, promising four times more capacity and superior performance over existing systems, laying the foundation for innovative applications in industries such as mining and high-end markets.
Strive Masiyiwa, founder and chairman of Liquid Intelligent Technologies, expressed enthusiasm about the technology’s potential: “Advances in 5G private network technology are a game changer. We can now provide large enterprises such as mining with their own 5G networks, enabling services such as AI. This is a huge leap forward,” Masiyiwa said.
Globalstar’s CEO, Dr. Paul Jacobs, highlighted the uniqueness of the company’s 5G XCOM RAN product: “This product is fundamentally different from traditional wireless solutions, enabling mission-critical, high-performance wireless applications. Our partnership with Liquid will accelerate the adoption of advanced wireless technologies across these regions,” Dr. Jacobs added.
The collaboration extends beyond XCOM RAN and also includes the potential non-exclusive use of Globalstar’s satellites, Band n53 spectrum and IoT solutions. As a mid-band spectrum, Band n53 offers versatile, fully licensed channels that will enhance wireless connectivity across a range of geographies.
Cassava Technologies President and Group CEO, Hadi Pemhiwa, expressed optimism about the prospects of the partnership: “Globalstar’s 5G enterprise solutions will enable us to provide unparalleled connectivity, which is in line with our ambition to be a leading technology company with African heritage, empowering businesses and communities with reliable, high-speed internet,” Pemhiwa said.
This strategic partnership marks not only an important step in Liquid’s efforts to strengthen its digital infrastructure, but also aligns with Globalstar’s vision to expand its technology footprint in high-value environments. The partnership aims to drive innovation and progress through improved connectivity to meet the growing needs of businesses and individuals in Africa and beyond.
