Korea Telecommunications (KT) announced that it has partnered with LG Electronics to promote research, development and technology standardization in the field of 6G mobile communications.
The two companies will work together to lead 6G mobile communications technology and strengthen global 6G standardization leadership through the development of next-generation transmission and full-duplex communication technologies and the discovery of differentiated 6G application services.
The two companies plan to develop wideband full-duplex communication technology that operates in the candidate frequency bands for 6G, design and manufacture full-duplex communication transceivers, and conduct performance verification of the actual equipment. In addition, the results of this collaboration will strengthen their global leadership in the joint research, development, and standardization of 6G technology in general.
New 6G services and performance indicators are currently being developed through standardization organizations such as the ITU (International Telecommunication Union) and 3GPP (3rd Generation Mobile Partnership Project). 3GPP in particular has decided to complete the standard specifications necessary for the development of 6G base stations and terminals by 2029.
