inside her executive spotlight interviewSinger shared insights on 5G technology and its role in supporting the U.S. government.
“I think government agencies will develop and acquire a variety of new and innovative use cases leveraging 5G. 5G is all about scalability, flexibility, speed, and reduced latency,” Singer said.
“5G on its own is very powerful, but it becomes even more powerful when you combine network edge computing for metropolitan areas with multi-access edge computing, which is more premises-based access. The opportunity is now, as we can bring massive computing power closer to our systems and enable new experiences,” she added.
In an interview, the public sector vice president highlighted how 5G can further support Internet of Things devices and provide connectivity at the tactical edge.
One of the trends Singer talked about in an interview is that government agencies and the military are taking advantage of the speed of commercial innovation.
“Governments should be proactive about 5G, artificial intelligence, and augmented and virtual reality as agencies explore commercial innovations and understand how these innovations improve mission delivery and IT infrastructure. “We are seeing that,” she explained.
Singer also cited cybersecurity threats, reliability and the pace of technology adoption as the biggest national security threats facing the country.
Regarding the adoption of technology, she said, “New technologies should be approached with an appropriate level of skepticism, and should be tested and tried out in safe spaces and in safe ways,” and urged lawmakers and policymakers to stated that the following criteria should be met: “It is time to understand the correct position so that they do not just adopt a position that has to be changed tomorrow.”
In an interview with Cipher Brief, Singer said the intelligence community should move forward. Network modernization To effectively carry out its mission by addressing growing cybersecurity risks and threats.
She noted that IC agencies should consider implementing zero trust to ensure that individuals accessing their networks are fully vetted and authorized.
“Design principles must keep cybersecurity in mind up front, even in the support of applications, networks, or other features of the infrastructure. Cybersecurity should not be bolted on at the end. ” Singer added.
AT&T executives offered suggestions on how IC agencies can improve procurement of modern platforms.
“They can aim for a more agile style of acquisition, as opposed to the usual multi-year winner-take-all approach. Smaller, more specific acquisitions allow new technologies to be acquired more quickly. It could be a useful way to introduce it,” she said.
