PICKENS COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – In Pickens County, neighbors and business owners are celebrating a technology milestone this Easter weekend. Thanks to thousands of dollars from BrightSpeed, the county now has faster internet service.
This is critical when it comes to running your business quickly and efficiently, and one Aliceville business owner knows this firsthand.
Business is good, but it got even better for Gary Hankins, owner of Food Fair in Aliceville. Hankins said that’s because internet speeds have essentially doubled compared to just two weeks ago, allowing customers to make purchases more quickly. What is the only grocery store in the city?
“Anything you can do to get faster and save time and time is money,” Hankins says.
In other words, when customers pay for their groceries with a card, the transaction is much faster.

The Alabama Department of Economic Community, also known as ADECA, awards BrightSpeed more than $388,000 to expand its state-of-the-art fiber optic broadband network to more homeowners and businesses in Pickens County, like Gary Hankins. This is a good thing because it gave a grant. .
