A change in leadership at national digital infrastructure group iseek will propel the company to new heights. Scott Hicks, founder of internet pioneer South Australian data center operator YourDC, has been appointed as the new CEO, just over a year after the business was acquired by iseek.
Mr Hicks has been a prominent figure in the field for more than 30 years, working to connect Australians to digital information sources. During his 16-year tenure as Managing Director of Adam Internet, he oversaw a remarkable growth phase, increasing his employee count to over 200 by the time he sold his ISP to his iiNet/TPG in 2013. It’s beyond the name. Then, through a consortium of industry leaders, he founded YourDC. In 2015 it quickly became South Australia’s premier private data center.
While taking the reins at iseek, Hicks plans to continue this growth trajectory by expanding the company’s data center portfolio. He aims to consolidate iseek’s position as a leading digital infrastructure operator in the Australian market. The company already boasts seven data center facilities across Brisbane, northern Queensland, Sydney and Adelaide.
Data centers are a blossoming investment opportunity, Hicks explains. He points to the rise in outsourced colocation arrangements, the rapid growth of cloud solutions, and the rise of artificial intelligence as driving demand. The new CEO praised the existing team, saying, “We’ve spent the past year strengthening and integrating teams across all of our facilities. It’s been an honor to work with such experienced people.” . Going forward, he hopes to “ensure that everyone can play a role in and benefit from future growth and continued opportunity.”
Jason Gomersall, who founded iseek 25 years ago, will now serve as executive director and develop the company’s sales and customer relationship management capabilities. Mr Hicks praised Mr Gomersall’s contribution and highlighted his success as “a key champion of the business, attracting blue-chip clients including all levels of government and Australia’s iconic international brands”.
Hicks praised the past collaboration between the two companies, saying, “When our companies combined through acquisition, we realized incredible synergies.” As the company embarks on its next phase of growth, the focus will be on “investing in building a strong company culture.”
Gomersall echoed this positive sentiment, sharing that “a number of key executive appointments” are imminent. He defended the company’s outlook, citing strong customer relationships with global cloud, enterprise and government customers. Gomersall concluded confidently: “With the transformative impact of his AI on data center demand, the next phase of iseek looks very exciting.”
