ICP information
Internet Computer is a versatile blockchain developed and launched by DFINITY Foundation in May 2021 with the aim of becoming the “computer of the world” that can host decentralized applications (dapps). The goal is to provide controlled computing costs that significantly exceed the cost fluctuations and scalability issues of traditional blockchains. The backbone of Internet computers is chain key encryption, which provides innovative features that enhance this mission.
The operation of an Internet computer depends on several important components. The Network Nervous System (NNS) serves as an open, decentralized management system that incorporates community suggestions and infinitely expands the blockchain network by continuously adding new nodes. To facilitate on-chain DAPP operations, data storage costs are kept to a minimum. To further enhance the user experience, smart contracts on this platform are executed directly and serve the user’s HTTP requests. The platform also guarantees user anonymity and employs a reverse gas model, where costs are borne by developers rather than users. In terms of infrastructure, Internet Computers follows Bitcoin and does not rely on centralized cloud nodes.
Internet Computer’s proprietary token, ICP, plays a key role in this ecosystem. It provides governance functionality to generate “neurons” by staking ICP tokens. This allows holders to vote on and influence proposals while earning rewards.
