Internet Computer (ICP) CEO and Principal Researcher Dominic Williams joined X to demonstrate the latest artificial intelligence (AI) innovations from his parent company, DFinity.

According to Williams’ post, ICP has introduced the first blockchain-based AI smart contract. He described the new product as a “demonstration of AI running on the blockchain* as a smart contract.”
“The world’s first 3rd generation internet computer is being used. Blockchain #ICP. AI will be the heart of our Web3, multi-chain world, but this is just my first demo.” the ICP chief added.
Notably, Internet Computer AI is part of the protocol’s mission to develop a system in which powerful Large Language Models (LLMs) run as smart contracts on top of ICPs. This mission is also expected to be accomplished in a tamper-proof, unstoppable, and optionally autonomous manner. Devin from Cognition Labs is broadly similar to the Internet Computer AI Model, except that the former focuses on training other LLMs.
For ICP, code is not currently available, but will be available soon. Internet Computer AI will run on DFINITY’s ICP testnet, but at the same time developers will be allowed to transfer their code to public networks to run. We expect NNS to increase the per-transaction instruction limit in the near future.
As Williams pointed out, several other features have not yet been fully implemented in Internet computer AI.

Despite the demo showcase, more work awaits the Internet Computer Smart Contract AI model, a trend similar to other artificial intelligence models such as Google Gemini. Optimization of the inference engine used in smart contract AI has not yet been completed. Once all these changes are implemented, the next demo should be touting the details of the updated ICP AI, including increased efficiency, faster speeds, and reduced gas and cycles.
In the future, ICP will require that smart contracts have access to Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) instructions. The team strongly believes that this increases the speed and efficiency of the system. The introduction of Internet Computer AI will force the company to migrate from his 32-bit environment to a 64-bit environment, which may increase memory limits for smart contracts.
