Indian telcos aim to account for 10% of all 6G patents and one-sixth of contributions to global standards over the next three years. They propose to systematically tailor research to India’s needs and set up a vibrant standards community.
India has already taken various initiatives such as launching the Bhart6G Vision and Bhart6G Alliance, patent and IPR support framework, and commissioning of testbeds to further India’s needs and can aim to achieve 10% of overall 6G patents and one-sixth contribution to global standards. The SAC has proposed a three-year roadmap to achieve this.
Minister Scindia asked the SAC members to define the key pathways for achieving the discussed goals and the role of various stakeholders, including the government, in achieving them. He also asked the telecom companies to take all necessary steps to ensure that citizens receive quality communication services.
The proposal was taken up at the second meeting of the Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC) on Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), chaired by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on August 23.
