New Delhi, Aug 24: A government-led committee has highlighted that India can achieve a 10% share of overall 6G patents and one-sixth contribution to global standards in the next three years.
The country has already launched various initiatives such as ‘Bharat 6G Vision’ and ‘Bharat 6G Alliance’ along with setting up patent and intellectual property rights support frameworks and testbeds.
The second meeting of the Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC) on Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), held in the national capital in the presence of Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, asked the telecom industry to expand and shape the future of the telecom ecosystem and facilitate inclusive and collaborative policy making.
Minister Scindia asked the SAC members to define the key pathways for achieving the objectives discussed and the role to be played by various stakeholders, including the government, in achieving them.
He also urged the TSPs to take all necessary steps to ensure that the people receive quality telecommunication services.
According to the ministry, SAC members emphasised on systematically aligning research with “Indian needs” and established a vibrant standards community.
The first SAC meeting identified specific focus areas: The second meeting focused discussions on international standards, India’s share in intellectual property and Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), telecom connectivity gap and quality of telecom services.
Industry experts said widespread adoption of both wired and intelligent wireless broadband networks with reliable connectivity is essential for India to become a leader in deep tech.
The TSP added that it called for a supportive policy framework to encourage investment towards 100 per cent broadband penetration in the country.
The government has set up six Stakeholder Advisory Committees that will provide valuable insights on various matters pertaining to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) with an aim to facilitate a consistent two-way dialogue with the government on matters related to the telecom sector.
