First, her knife storage hack, and now this!
Eagle-eyed Ina Garten fans recently noticed that the New York-born and raised Food Network star cuts her bagels a little differently than everyone else, sparking a viral controversy over her latest dish. .
In a clip from an old “Barefoot Contessa” episode on the Food Network website, Garten uses a serrated knife to slice a thick sesame seed bagel twice, creating three equal slices instead of the typical middle slice. You can see them making bagel rings. Upper, middle and lower.
Her reasoning is similar to what you’d find in a club sandwich. Club sandwiches include extra bread in the center of the sandwich fixture to help with overall structure.
“Instead of eating a big, thick bagel, I like to cut it into thirds,” she said.
She continued her demonstration, spreading herbed cream cheese on the bottom of the bagel, adding a layer of smoked salmon, and repeating the process with a second layer of bagel on top.
The internet was divided when the original video was shared on X and received over 3.5 million views.
While some comments criticized Garten’s technique, others defended her.
One user replied: “Schmair is double-layered. She’s a visionary.”
Garten has not yet commented on the current breakfast food debate.
