A man who was fed up with his roommate not paying his fair share of the internet bill decided to take action.
Living with roommates requires sharing the cost of basic necessities like electricity, heating, internet, etc. While some people will share the costs fairly according to the agreement, there will always be some who don’t pay, forcing others to bear an unfair burden.
Angered by his freeloader roommate’s refusal to pay his Wi-Fi bill, someone found a creative way to cut ties with the freeloader.
They switched to a mobile hotspot instead of their home internet, he wrote on Reddit, “It’s slower than my home internet, but at least I’m not paying for someone else’s entertainment.”
While they’re enduring snail-speed connection speeds and are pretty happy with their clever solution, other Reddit users have jumped into the discussion, sharing various tactics they could try instead.
Tips about cheaper alternatives and nifty tricks abounded: “Why didn’t you change your WiFi password or block his device on the router?” said one user.
Another user offered some helpful advice on how to get a discount on a new service plan: “You can usually get a discount for the first year of service. If you’re sick of the slowness, consider a new plan and don’t share your passwords.”
Echoing the previous suggestion, another person commented: “All you had to do was change your password. And then use an access point that has a paid hotspot, so you have to pay with your credit card every day before you use it, like a hotel. These setups aren’t that expensive. You just get a splash screen with a pay wall.”
