Germantown, Maryland Hughes Network Systems (EchoStar) announced it has been awarded a contract with SES Space & Defense to provide flexible, software-defined, multi-orbit automated PACE. [primary, alternate, contingency and emergency] Solutions and associated modems to support SES Space & Defense and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Defense Experimentation Using Commercial Space Internet (DEUCSI) program.
Under the terms of the contract, Hughes is tasked with delivering automated network management system (NMS) and enterprise management and control (EM&C) capabilities, along with “smart network edge” software that will be integrated by Hughes and the SES Space Defense team . Next-generation software-defined HM100 and HM400 satellite modems offering GEO/MEO [geosynchronous orbit/medium Earth orbit] Connectivity. SES Space & Defense is working on integrating LEO [low Earth orbit] Incorporating the solution into the Hughes auto-PACE product is expected to improve the resiliency of the final program.
Hughes’ solutions provide resilient, communications-while-suspended (COTP) and communications-on-the-move (COTM) test scenarios using both Ku-band and Ka-band GEO/MEO/LEO satellite constellations. Enables broadband connectivity.
