Huawei, a global leader in technology and telecommunications, is pushing the industry into a new era with the launch of the world’s first comprehensive solution suite for 5.5G technology.

This comes at a time when 5G adoption and usage by enterprises and consumers is rapidly increasing and continues to expand into new experiences, new connections, and new applications, said Cao Ming, president of Huawei’s Wireless Solutions. He spoke at an international media roundtable. The 14th Global Mobile Broadband Forum was held in Dubai in October.

This 5.5G network boasts impressive features such as 10 Gbps downlink, 1 Gbps uplink, high capacity with 100 billion-level connections, and native intelligence. “Huawei is at the forefront of innovation to ensure our solutions help carriers achieve 10x functionality in full scenarios and achieve ultra-high energy efficiency, spectrum utilization, and O&M efficiency.” said Mr. Cao. Mr. Cao emphasized this possibility to journalists gathered from all over the world. We will discuss this technology and the changes it may bring to our society.

A network that exceeds expectations

Telcos around the world are deploying 5G networks at a rate that far outpaces previous generations of mobile communications technology. In the past five years, around 260 commercial 5G networks have been deployed around the world, and the global 5G user base has reached a staggering number of 1.5 billion people.

The most interesting thing about 5G is its capabilities, Cao explained. “The strength of a network that is 10x more powerful than its predecessor, 4G, is driving remarkable advances in high-definition video and cloud gaming. The limitations experienced during video playback, gaming, and HD video calling on 4G networks are , thanks to 5G, is gradually becoming a thing of the past. This is just the beginning of 5G deployment,” he said in response to a question about how 5G will benefit the gaming industry.

In fact, upgrades in experience, connectivity, and services are ushering in the era of 5.5G, a network with 10 Gbps downlink, 1 Gbps uplink, 100 billion-level connectivity, and native intelligence.

To help carriers efficiently build 5.5G networks and achieve 10 times more functionality in full scenarios, Huawei releases the industry’s first 5.5G solution. Cao described his five fundamental technology pillars that support these enhancements:

  • ultra wideband: The ability to support a wide range of discontinuous bands reduces the need for multiple equipment deployments, reducing installation costs.
  • multi band: Huawei’s solution provides the ability to support multiple bands using one box, significantly reducing installation costs and antenna space, leading to lower tower rental costs.
  • Multi-antenna technology: This technology significantly increases spectral efficiency, leading to a better user experience and lower spectrum licensing costs for carriers.
  • energy efficiency: An innovative solution aimed at minimizing energy consumption during various traffic loads and ensuring a greener and more sustainable network.
  • Intelligent RAN: Advanced, intelligent network management reduces complexity and costs associated with operations and maintenance, improving network efficiency and user experience.

Collectively, these pillars of innovation will enable us to deliver on the promise of 5.5G networks, ensuring efficient, user-centric networks that are future-ready.

In the cellular Internet of Things (IoT) space, two mainstream 5.5G IoT technologies, Red Cap and Passive IoT, are gaining traction, with module developers and chipset manufacturers actively deploying their products. .

Redefining the user experience

Until now, video-related services such as video calls and games have primarily operated in 2D. However, with the advent of 5G, a shift towards 3D and augmented reality (XR) services is becoming clear. “The rise of 3D services and applications will create significant demand for network capabilities,” Cao said.

5.5G networks are expected to bring robust capabilities that will allow telcos and various enterprises to extend their reach, expanding business horizons and identifying new revenue streams for content providers, device manufacturers, and chip manufacturers. We can provide you with the opportunity to The potential for growth and innovation in this field is enormous, Cao explained.

However, as 5G deployment continues at an unprecedented pace, concerns are being raised about the need to upgrade existing infrastructure. Cao said Huawei is committed to helping carriers seamlessly evolve their networks to protect carriers’ investments.

Preparedness status of each country

Mr. Cao spoke about the future use of 5.5G technology, stressing that the technology is rapidly gaining momentum around the world and is on the verge of accelerated commercialization. “Several factors are contributing to this large-scale commercialization. Release 18, scheduled to be frozen next year, marks the completion of the 5.5G specification and confirms the industry’s readiness for the impending transition. Additionally, 5.5G chipsets and devices are already emerging, “a market typified by the release of Qualcomm’s 5G Advanced Chipset with 10 Gbps downlink capacity,” Cao said.

In terms of spectrum readiness, 20 countries around the world are already participating in mmWave auctions, paving the way for significant advances in 5.5G deployment. The sub-6 gigahertz band will be discussed and identified at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC 23) in Dubai this November.

“The Middle East is expected to maintain its leading position in the 5.5G era,” Cao said. This is a regional effort to embrace and leverage the potential of 5.5G technology.”

Regarding the regional digital divide, Huawei recognizes that technological development is uneven across regions. While the first wave of 5G markets, including the Middle East, Europe, China and Asia-Pacific countries, introduced 5G about five years ago, African countries are not at the same pace. Key points in the 5G adoption journey include ecosystem maturation and market development.

Cao added that Huawei is cooperating in various regions and hopes that through its efforts, countries and regions can more quickly enjoy the conveniences brought by 5G.

Empowering industry through 5.5G

One of the pivotal aspects of 5.5G’s evolution is its transformative impact on various industries. The business-to-business (B2B) capabilities of 5G networks have already been adopted at scale in the 5G era. Cao shared several examples from China where fully connected factories are leveraging his 5G to drive digitalization within their operations.

Cao said industries such as car manufacturing need significant strengthening. 5G and 5.5G technologies offer the potential to revolutionize productivity and accelerate digital transformation within industries. “Huawei envisions a future where ICT solutions enable automakers to build better and smarter vehicles, ensuring seamless integration of technology into the automotive sector,” Cao said. Stated.

Huawei’s expansion into the 5.5G technology field represents a major step forward for the telecommunications industry. As 5G adoption accelerates and the industry continues to embrace digital transformation, the advent of 5.5G promises a more connected and technologically enhanced future.
