[Shanghai, China, June 25, 2024] At MWC Shanghai 2024, Huawei hosted the global launch of its 5G-A Pioneer Program. Themed “Driving Shared Success with 5G-A”, the event brought together pioneering 5G operators from around the world, including China’s “Big Three” as well as HKT, du, and Oman Telecommunications. The event discussed how to drive high-quality development of 5G-A networks and how to seize opportunities from the upcoming intelligent world to create new market space for growth.
Huawei and its operator partners jointly launch 5G-A Pioneer Program
5G has become the fastest-developing generation of mobile communication technology to date. Pioneer carriers who were the first to adopt 5G have all achieved business success step by step. 3GPP Release-18, the first standard release of 5G-Advanced, was also officially frozen in Shanghai on June 28, 2024. This marks an important milestone for the 5G industry, and 2024 will mark the first year of commercial deployment of 5G-A.
David Wang, Executive Member of the Board of Directors of Huawei and Chairman of its ICT Infrastructure Management Committee, delivered a keynote speech at the event titled “5G-A: Paving the Way for Shared Success.”
In his speech, he said, “5G-A will be the way forward, protecting existing investments and at the same time creating new business opportunities by expanding business boundaries. Looking towards 2030, the entire industry needs to step up efforts to strengthen 5G-A technologies and support the healthy development of 5G. This will ensure the prosperity of the 5G industry in the long term and make the world a better place. Huawei is willing to work hand in hand with the industry to build a healthy 5G-A ecosystem, upgrade 5G-A standards, and share the benefits of 5G-A development. Together, we will make the intelligent world a reality sooner.”
Third, Huawei and its carrier partners jointly announced the 5G-A Pioneer Program and six specific agreements reached at the launch ceremony. These agreements will maximize the value of advanced 5G-A capabilities by promoting pioneer carriers, pioneer cities, business model upgrades, high-quality networks, service innovation, and a thriving ecosystem, helping to promote the development of 5G-A and further advance the industry.
Huawei will continue to support carriers’ innovation efforts in networks, services, and ecosystems, and help them build differentiated competitiveness in the 5G-A era, with the ultimate goal being to promote the development of high-quality industries, realize digitalization and intelligentization, and realize a better, intelligent world.
MWC Shanghai 2024 will be held in Shanghai, China from June 26 to June 28. During the event, Huawei will exhibit its latest products and solutions at Stands E10 and E50 in Hall N1 at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC).
2024 will be the first year of commercial 5G-A, and the deployment of F5G-A gigabit optical networks has already begun.
