[Shanghai, China, June 27, 2023] At the 2023 Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai, Huawei held a 5G Business Dialogue, providing an opportunity for domestic and foreign telecommunications companies to exchange views on the development of the mobile industry. Participants agreed that 5G has created business value after four years of development and is now at a critical crossroads for future growth. The industry is required to further leverage 5G and advance the 5G industry upgrade.
Richard Liu speaking at the 5G Business Dialogue Salon
Liu Kang, President of Marketing & Solution Sales Department of Huawei Carrier BG Co., Ltd., talked about some 5G success stories and 5G development trends. He said that as a result of rapid network construction and user migration, the first wave of 5G carriers achieved good performance, especially in terms of large-scale monetization of eMBB services. China’s practices prove that carriers can explore more 5G capabilities and leverage eMBB even further. For example, telcos can offer differentiated experiences to different groups of livestreamers and further develop innovative services such as New Calling and naked-eye 3D. Meanwhile, 5.5G will help carriers leverage his URLLC and mmTC. For example, Shenzhen successfully tested harmonic communication sensing (HCS) technology for low-altitude drone flights, and Beijing implemented V2X applications. RedCap and passive IoT technologies are also now maturing. All this can contribute to his vision of 100 billion connections. The outlook for the 5G industry remains bright, and industry partners need to work together to create new value.
Mr. Wensheng Wang speaking at the 5G Business Dialogue Salon
Mr. Wang Wensheng, general manager of China Mobile Hangzhou, also gave a keynote speech entitled “5G City – A digital and intelligent future built on innovation” and shared China Mobile’s 5G success story. He said China Mobile Hangzhou has been working on building a 5G city for many years and already has a head start in exploring 5G technology evolution. The company has made several breakthrough advances by pursuing total leadership from a network, technology, operations, application and ecosystem perspective. China Mobile has also established a global model for 5G innovation.
During the panel discussion, China Mobile Hangzhou Deputy General Manager Zhuge Yi exchanged opinions with telecommunications companies on how to quickly cultivate 5G users and explore the new blue ocean of enterprise digitalization. He said that China Mobile Hangzhou has chosen to build a moderately advanced 5G network, enabling ubiquitous Gigabit connectivity in urban and rural areas, indoor and outdoor environments, or mixed scenarios. He explained that 5G is now available. We also implemented targeted policies based on user groups and delivered attractive packages that promote balanced development of networks and services. Telecommunications companies are inherently experienced when it comes to 5G-based industrial digitization and can make a significant contribution to the digital economy. Telcos therefore need to take advantage of the business opportunities presented by the digital economy and drive IT-based transformation. To achieve this, you need to prepare for scaling up your business by developing your strategy, restructuring your organization, building your ecosystem, and defining your products and services. The end result of such efforts could be a second path to sustainable development.
Telcos in the Asia-Pacific region also shared updates on 5G developments and expressed their willingness to explore effective ways to monetize 5G. The two leaders appreciated China Mobile Hangzhou’s 5G success and expressed interest in partnership to promote the healthy development of 5G.
