Think of your WiFi router like a light bulb. To maximize its range, its energy is not blocked by anything else. Even metal and water are like kryptonite to the radio waves used in WiFi, but even shelves and books can get in the way.
Ideally, place your router as close to the center of your home as possible. But what if the box is sitting in a far corner because that’s where your internet line enters your house? You can also buy a longer cable to bring the box closer to the action. (If your internet is provided by your cable company, you can get a 30-foot version of the coaxial cable and connector for $15.)
Alternatively, you could consider upgrading to a so-called “mesh” router, which uses two or more boxes in tandem to distribute WiFi more evenly around your home.
