What caused Horn’s data breach?
The Horn data breach was only recently announced, and we expect more information to emerge in the near future. However, Horn’s filing with the Massachusetts Attorney General provides important information about what led to the breach. According to the source, in December 2021, Horn detected suspicious activity on some of its computer networks. In response, Horn secured its network and launched an investigation to determine what had happened and what consumer information may have been compromised as a result.
Through this investigation, Horn learned that between December 8, 2021 and December 13, 2021, an unauthorized third party accessed portions of its IT network. The investigation was able to confirm that specific systems were accessed, but was unable to confirm what information within those systems was actually accessed. As a result, Horn conducted a detailed review of the information contained within the portions of the compromised network. Horn recently completed this review.
Horn sent data breach notification letters to all individuals affected by the recent data security incident on January 23, 2024 and August 20, 2024. While the data breach notification letters available online do not specifically state the types of data that were leaked, individual notification letters sent to individual victims should include a list of the information that was compromised.
